Dr. Tecla Namachanja Wanjala is a globally recognized peace builder, human rights activist and trauma healing expert with over 30 years of experience in these fields. A Richard von Weizsäcker Fellow under Robert Bosch Academy and a recipient of the 2019 Peace Builder of the Year Award (offered by the Centre for Justice and Peace, Eastern Mennonite University, USA). Nominee for the 1,000 Women for the 2005 Nobel Peace Prize and a former Vice and Acting Chairperson of the Kenya’s Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC). Travelled extensively across the world to offer courses, trainings and presentations/talks on matters related to peace/conflict, transitional justice and social/trauma healing.
She holds a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (2008-2013), an M.A in Conflict Transformation – Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg Virginia, USA (2001-2003), a Diploma in Social Development Work from Embu Development Institute, Kenya (1989-1991), and Certificates in Peace Keeping and Human Rights from United Nations University based in Tokyo, Japan (2003).
She holds a Master of Education degree from Kenyatta University. She has over 12 years of teaching and teacher training experience and over 20 years’ experience in the development sector spanning the public, NGOs and the United Nations.
She has worked with grassroots communities where poverty levels are highest.

He holds an MA degree in peacebuilding from the University of Manitoba, Canada and a Graduate Certificate in Use of Arts in Peacebuilding at Canadian Peace School.
He has worked in Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Rwanda, US and Canada. He is an international committee member for the Cultural Humility and Diversity Committee of the North American Drama Therapy Association, member of the board at the Pedagogy and Theatre of the Oppressed (PTO) as well as International Expressive arts Association (EXA).
He has co-published book chapter and journal article: Truth Comes in Many Colors: Theatre of the Oppressed for Conflict Transformation and Trauma Healing in Kenya, Grassroots Leadership and the Arts for Social Change (Building Leadership Bridges) and Forum theatre for conflict transformation in East Africa: The domain of the possible, African Conflict and Peacebuilding Review, 5(1), 136-151.
